Prof. Jihyun Choo

Jihyun Choo is an assistant professor of sociology at Seoul National University.

 

She has supervised and taught in the areas of human rights and gender. Her research interests cover feminist criminology, security and human rights, social transformation and dangerization of ‘Others’.

 

She continues to research that covers how multiple victimization of gender based violence is experienced and signified to women, how criminal justice system utilize policing and sentence ‘for securing society’, the impact of historical experience of criminal justice lame on punitiveness works today, and how discourses of safety and risk are influencing today’s feminism and the sense of social justice.

 

She is one of the committee members of Korean Association of Women’s Studies, editorial members of Critical Sociological Association of Korea, and Women’s Studies of Korea.

 

Recent published articles include: Feminism’s’: The experiences of social transform, risk and communication (2019), Ideological Interpellation of ‘Folk Devil' in the Park Chung-hee Regime: Strategy for Efficiency of Criminal Justice (2018), Doing Business Alone as a Woman - Gendered Strategies for Preventing Crime "Opportunities" and their Effectiveness (2018), the State of Hate Speech and The Response Measures (2017).

 

Her recent books include: Who does kill woman? The outburst between misogyny and feminism (forthcoming), gender, love, society (2016).
